The Concussion Collection (All Ages)
In the Concussion Collection, you'll find therapeutic coloring books for patients of all ages who have a concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI) or post concussion syndrome. Each coloring book can help rebuild visualization and dreaming skills as well as figure-ground processing skills. Coloring books also offer relaxation benefits to people of all ages.
WHAT DOES COLORING HAVE TO DO WITH CONCUSSION RECOVERY?
After suffering a concussion, getting adequate “brain rest” is important because rest helps the brain to heal. During “brain rest,” concussion patients are told to avoid loud noises and bright lights and to limit any overly stimulating visual activities such as watching TV, using a computer or texting. However, one visual activity that concussion patients are encouraged to do is to color. Coloring is an entertaining yet calming activity that can relax the brain and help prevent boredom during recovery. Because concussions can sometimes interfere with the brain’s ability to process complex visual information, coloring is also an inexpensive and effective way to begin rebuilding visualization/dreaming skills as well as figure ground processing skills.
DREAMING AND VISUALIZATION
: formation of mental visual images
: the act or process of interpreting in visual terms or of putting into visible form
FIGURE GROUND PROCESSING
: making sense of details in a busy visual environment (like in a grocery store)
